Day 17 – Little Drummer Boy

One of my favorite Christmas songs is Little Drummer Boy, and one of my favorite versions is by Bob Seger. (link is Bob singing it)  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj36MsDjbfc

Why do I like this song so much?  The lyrics move me and stir in me a deep desire to adore Jesus.

“Come they told me, a new-born king to see” – seeing Jesus is still a matter of looking for Him.

“Our finest gifts to bring” – our finest gift to bring to Jesus is our heart. I heard this said by my Pastor yesterday. And how true – our heart is what Jesus wants. He isn’t after your money, He isn’t after your job, He isn’t after your football tickets – He wants to be in your heart.

“So to honor Him, when we come” – we honor Jesus by coming to Him. We honor Him by paying Him our attention…by seeking Him when we could be seeking so many other things in this world.

“I have no gift to bring, that’s fit to give a king. Shall I play for you on my drum?” – This is the part that gets me the most. I tear up every time. I know I have nothing fit to bring Jesus, but He loves me just how God made me. He loves my desire to offer the smallest pieces of me to Him. As I live my daily life for Him, “playing my drum” – it pleases Him.

Merry Christmas All!

God Bless your New Year and all it will hold. May Jesus smile on you this year.

“Little Drummer Boy”

Come they told me (ba rum bu bu bum)
A new born king to see (ba rum bu bu bum)
Our finest gifts we bring (ba rum bu bu bum)
To set before the king (ba rum bu bu bum)
Rum bu bu bum, Rum bu bu bum
So to honor him (ba rum bu bu bum)
When we come

Little baby (ba rum bu bu bum)
I am a poor boy too (ba rum bu bu bum)
I have no gift to bring (ba rum bu bu bum)
That’s fit to give a king (ba rum bu bu bum)

Shall I play for you (ba rum bu bu bum)
On my drum
Then he nodded (ba rum bu bu bum)
The Ox and Lamb kept time (ba rum bu bu bum)
I played my drum for him (ba rum bu bu bum)
I played my best for him (ba rum bu bu bum)
Rum bu bu bum Rum bu bu bum
Then he smiled at me (ba rum bu bu bum)

Me and my drum
Me and my drum
Me and my drum
Me and my drum
Me and my drum
