400 Words About Words

“Our words have a profound effect on the entire universe” Movie: A Thousand Words

I’m sure there will be things I don’t agree with spiritually in this movie, but I think there is a truth worth hearing in it about words.

I love words! I like putting them together in new ways and I love specific words, like Daffodil, just because it’s whimsical and makes me smile.

Something that strikes me about the Lord is His Words, both spoken and unspoken.

He says what He means and means what He says. He doesn’t use His words to blow fluff up our butts, and He doesn’t waste words. He doesn’t make empty promises and He doesn’t speak just to hear Himself…all things that we on this planet do too much of daily.

Have you ever gotten tired of hearing your own voice and the words that are coming out of your own mouth? I have.

In my bible study time I like to practice something I heard called “Contemplative Prayer”. It is taking a small block of scripture, pray for understanding of it, and then read it out loud, repeat it several times out loud. Then slow it down and really emphasis each word, hearing each one, paying attention to how the words are put together.

It is amazing how much is gained by really listening to each of His Words.
Don’t underestimate the power of being still before the Lord; just letting Him do the talking for a while.

God made a point to say that not one word should be added to the bible or taken away, so He was specific about which words He included. God also says that we should let our yes be yes and no be no, and that in our tongue (our words) is the power of life and death.

He wants us to be people of our word, just as He is a God of His Word.

“Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished” Luke 1:45

“Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.” Ecclesiastes 5:2
