Make Celebration a Goal!

Rm.13:6-8
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.

Another passion of mine is to encourage people to seek financial wisdom.  So, I’m excited God prompted me to write this!

Today I received fantastic news that my parents paid off their house! As we were talking about the need to celebrate, it occurred to me that this type of celebration is something unheard of these days! How sad is that?

There used to be talk of “Mortgage Burning Parties”, but now the thinking has shifted, and it’s accepted that mortgages are part of life and we will never pay them off. I don’t believe that to be God’s way.

According to His Word, we are to pay off every debt, even the debt of offense through forgiveness.

Oh, how much celebrating we miss out on in this life, because we aren’t content long enough to celebrate! There is always that next best thing; that new technology gadget we must have, or the car that is better than the one we have… I’m not saying it’s wrong to have new things, but the problem is when things rule our lives, and are like gods to us.

God says that to be in debt is to be ruled over, to be a slave to that thing.

If we are to be free and not slaves to debts, we must place higher priority on paying off our debts! Jesus calls us to freedom, and that includes financial freedom! Financial wisdom is something God wants to give us, and He will deliver if we are willing to seek Him for it and listen.

In my own life I have asked him for that financial wisdom, and He has granted it! He has guided me to make wise choices. I urge you too, to seek God for wisdom!  James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Psalm 37:21
The wicked borrows and does not pay back, but the righteous is gracious and gives.

Proverbs 22:7
The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower becomes the lender’s slave.

Ecclesiastes 5:5
It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay

Deuteronomy 15:6
For the LORD your God will bless you as He has promised you, and you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.

Let’s set our minds and hearts on how to live so that we can be free!  Let’s make celebration a goal!

I pray that freedom be your desired goal in life, because there is more pleasure in true freedom than in all the treasures this world can afford.
