Getting the right meaning

A friend of mine told me to write a blog about my dreams, but I kept shrugging it off until today when I see AOL offering strange dream interpretation advice! That motivated me to write this. The enemy would love for us to get wrong meanings out of our dreams because how better to move us into wrong action or thought.
Whether you choose to admit it there are two forces at work in this world – good and bad, God or the enemy of our lives. Nothing is just random, especially if we are a child of God we have purpose and work to do while we are here and the enemy would love to knock us off course whatever way possible.

Dreams are something to be interpreted so they aren’t always clear-cut, which leaves much room for misinterpretation and questions. I’d like to pass on some information that has helped me navigate through and by my dreams.

Most dreams are just your mind reconciling the day’s/life’s events. Working out all you’re experiencing throughout your days. But there are dreams that God gives to you to tell you something specific that will help you, these you will remember, or even keep dreaming over and over. You might even recall one while reading this. So let’s get into what to do with a dream like that.

First, I recommend keeping a notebook and pen by the bed, and that you write down what you remember about the dream when you wake up from it. (waiting till morning you might not recall all the details) Write down the date, time, and the dream in detail.

Second, I found some helpful questions that will help you understand what it could mean.
1. What’s been on my mind and heart lately?
2. Write the dream out
3. Write how each symbol, action, word, situation, etc.. made you feel.
4. Is there an outcome in the dream?
5. What is the overall theme?
6. Where did it occur?
7. Who was in the dream?

Third, meanings of the symbols should be looked up in the bible to start, but there are also some other Godly sources. I recommend the book and work book: Dream Language by James W. and Michal Ann Goll. Numbers have meanings, colors, people, places, times, directions, etc.. It is amazing what you will get from a dream.
I’ve had dreams change the course of my life, and I’ve had dreams that are still to be understood.
Some dreams are best to be held on to while watching out for it’s revelation. “Some dreams are eggs – they take time and warmth to hatch.” James Goll. Hab. 2:3 “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, it will surely come; it will not be behindhand on its appointed day”

Some people think dreams are psychic, fortune-telling, or relate them to some mystical experience.

“Dreams do not explain the future; the future will explain the dreams.” James Goll
Genesis 40:8 “We both had dreams,” they answered, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams.”

The enemy would love for us to receive false information from any source he can use. Psychics are one way the enemy can provide false information. Dreams are not psychic!! They are not fortune tellers or magic. Zechariah 10:2
“The idols speak deceit, diviners see visions that lie; they tell dreams that are false, they give comfort in vain. Therefore the people wander like sheep oppressed for lack of a shepherd.”

Take the dream or dreams you’ve recalled and start with writing it down, run through the questions, and look up the symbols. Seek God for interpretations. He is speaking to you through the dream, he won’t hide the meaning.
